WildBlue Satellite Internet Service Sucks
Monday, November 24, 2008
I wish I could say I really like WildBlue, but I can’t. They provide a unique service for those folks who are not near enough to DSL central office or cable service to get internet broadband service. I understand the inherent limitations of satellite communications (it takes about a second to send radio waves all the way up to geosynchronous orbiting satellites, then back down to earth again), so I’m not going to complain about the fact that latency is quite slow (no way to play twitch games). Once a download starts, it shoves bit into your computer fairly quickly, so that’s fine.
What really sucks is their customer support.
WildBlue is a satellite internet service provider — if you live in the boonies with no high-speed cable modem service, then WildBlue is just about your only option if you want anything faster than 56K modem dialup service.
